sure, here's a couple more. Does he hang out at Caboolture airfield? There seems to be a whole bunch of people that restore old planes there, he might like it.

Wow Stevo! These photos are magnificent! It sure was a gorgeous sunny weekend for the Air show. We didn't go along but watched and heard the planes zooming around!

Here's one from last Sunday. I have a filter on the lens that has a heavy tint, you can't really see through it when you look. So you can put the filter on a expose for maybe seconds during sunlight and capture/blur things moving. This is not a great example of things moving but you get the idea. The water and waves moving up the beach blur and create a little bit of a smokey look. This would be better with bigger water movement and some clouds sweeping towards the camera. No clouds this day though!

oh wow! Water looks so dreamy!

Not sure if he hangs out there, Stevo, I think I asked him once & must've got a no reply or I'd know for sure he did go there.
Thanks for the extra photos, you sure take good shots.
I have recently lost my $1000+ camera that exasperated the crap out of me.
I think it fell out of my shorts pocket as I opened the door of the car at Mooloolaba 2wks ago.
Its one of those days where you just know it was not going to end well!
In future I think I'll buy a much cheaper & smaller camera that properly fits in my pocket.
I have an old Casio that is thin & small so I think it might be another of those.

cheers Skippy, maybe i should have posted the event here but wasn't sure if i was going to go til the day. It's a fairly relaxed venue and wasn't too many people. Lots of planes on display and the owners standing there trapping people in to long conversations :)

Clissa, bugger about the camera. Can you claim it under your home and contents insurance?

I usually argue the point not to buy a compact camera and get a nice phone that takes good photos. Quite a few phones can get better photos than cheap compact cameras, they have great big screens, they make calls, get on the net, and you always have it with you anyway.

great camera! A bigger box brownie!??

Stevo I never thought about my insurance, but yes I could because I had the away from home cover although always thought of it for my expensive laptop. I wonder how much it would put the premium up by......mmm

The phone thing is an interesting option, pity I don't currently have a mobile! I struggle to use them effectively & hate carrying one in my very small handbag. Also hate the intrusion of calls & the inflated cost of a plan.

Here's the ebay description of the camera:
"
The carbine series of cameras were manufactured by W. Butcher & Sons Ltd. from approximately 1903 to 1930. These roll film cameras were adaptable for plates.

This one has a Beck Symmetrical lens with apertures from f8 to f44 and a Bausch & Lomb Automat shutter with speeds from 1 second to 1/100 second plus B and T.

The roll film and take up spools are housed in removable stainless steel cases.

The format is 5 1/4 X 3 1/4 on 3 1/2 inch roll film.

Brilliant view-finder with both vertical and horizontal views.
Spirit level.
Removable back panel to fit plate holders.
Vertical and horizontal lens movements. "
===========

If you don't currently have a mobile phone then maybe you wouldn't like them, they can invade your lifestyle. Smartphones can be quite large too.

So your new camera would take a specialist film apart from plates?
I know its a dying industry but I guess some company must still make film.
And no doubt you then develop it yourself?
A couple years ago my Mother asked me to sell some stuff on gumtree for her including an old film camera with several unopened rolls of 35mm Fujifilm. It never sold & I don't know what she did with it because when we packed unit up after her passing the camera was not there.

re the smart mobile, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet & get another one one day but I'm in no hurry with pretty much no reception at my house. But yes the smarts are quite big......not sure how smart that is other than to make a larger piece of real estate on which to display stuff (ads).

Yeah there's a bunch of people still using film. Lots of people buying and selling all kinds of film cameras on ebay. Everyone goes for the classic quality cameras, the ones that would have cost thousands when new and can still for $100 - $500. Maybe it's a bit of a trendy thing to do. I really just bought this one for display purposes, though i'm still researching what film types are available. Some kind of polaroid film might be good just for fun. I think you can get 10 packs.

Reception is a problem, but if you have a nice big screen you can get on websites like this one while you're on the verandah with a wine, ... .....and then you can look like the rest of society with their head buried in their phone ... haha

2 things wrong with that scenario....
1) I don't drink wine;
2) I'd rather be out there actually doing it, rather than sitting around reading about others doing it!

Probably a bit old fashioned, that second one, but that's me. :D

re 2), due to age & infirmity, I do 3hrs before the day gets hot, then come indoors to do housework, internet, cooking, etc until the heat has passed, then work til dark or past dark on moonlight nights.
I always get behind in my chores during winter due to shortening days, but make up time as the days get longer.

It was the War Birds Show.
Great images mate!

My Aunty Lynette owns Aerotec in Toowoomba (they restore Warbirds) not sure if she entered any planes in the show this year but they usually do. My Uncle Guido founded the business - he sadly passed away in a plane crash at an airshow 20 years ago doing what he loved.

I'll send my Aunty a link to your images I'm sure she'd love to see them!

Btw, she didn't enter any of her planes in the show this year but they do maintain several old war birds for clients that did fly in the show.
