Are fabric pots any good for growing vegetables in ?

You mean the little ones for seedlings or the big ones with handles for more mature plants?
Either way yes, as long as you keep the water up to them.
They tend to dry out very quickly in hot dry weather,
I've grown some extra chard in the big ones this year as I'm still building my permanent raised beds.

I love fabric pots, but I do agree that they tend to dry out the soil faster.
