Today, I ground up some turmeric I had dried in my dehydrator (took about 24 hours to dry) and made our own turmeric powder! WOW, I can tell you my kitchen smelt like an Indian spice shop
I can tell the spice powder is really potent and now I know why some chefs say to take it easy on the turmeric when making a curry etc; however, the standard supermarket packet stuff isn't near as pungent and over the years I'm used to doubling the amount in a recipe just to get a good hit. Not with this stuff! She's wonderfully aromatic!
I took some video so I'll probably knock up a short clip soon (and post it here) on how I grow turmeric and then turn it into powder - it's so easy to do...
