Today I was lucky enough to get this free canna plant from Bunnings but the reason it was free is the interesting part...

I was going through the checkout out at the gardening section when a lady came back and returned this canna because she didn't realise it had a yellow flower and she didn't like yellow.

The problem was, she had already planted it out into the garden and discarded the pot so she decided to dig it up and bring it back in a box

Anyway, she didn't make any demands and simply dumped the plant at the checkout so after she left the checkout guy (young fella) says, "mate, do ya want free plant because we can't accept plants back like this?" And, I promptly accepted his offer - right place right time... BOOM

    Free stuff is good.

It would have been cheaper for the lady to just mulch it.

Actually Bunnings has a plant return policy where if the plant does not meet the standard it can be returned.
The lady was right but she needed to have produced the receipt for a refund.
In anycase Mark, you scored a nice plant.
Now what was that I read that you wrote a month of so back where you were bemoaning the fact that there were not enough hours in the day to get all the pruning done?
Guess what..........cannas need a HEAP of pruning!!!
    Good luck :D

However, there is a bright side, since they also produce copious quantities of green mulch in the form of chop & drop. Do you have a karma knife? Or a scythe will do the job if the plants don't get too woody.

I can always use extra mulch! Not the extra work though... :p Oh well, a little more hard work won't hurt me...
