Grabbed these 2 fantastic hives off a local fella selling off his stock, one brood chamber and 3 supers on each and they are heavy as and full
Put into place on their stand awhile back and settling in beautifully
40 odd fruit trees on the property and the bee's are doing their thing
Harvest time in a couple of weeks

I read recently that with this drought, the suggestion was to provide a bird waterer with water close to the hives. Having the water source close means the bees don't waste energy flying through hot days and dry air.
The bees line up all around the edges of the bird waterer but having flat stones in the middle of the water was also useful too apparently.
Also growing plenty of pollen producing flowers for them too. Annuals that flower quickly.
The more pollen they bring back this year the stronger the hive will be next season.

Fantastic Ray can't wait to get a hive or 2 some time next year I hope . We have a few honey bees and some small stingless ones floating around the veggie garden but some more would be good. Cheers Dave

On a tv show the other day, a honey producer was interviewed about his city bees.
He said it took 5000 bees 5mths to produce a 500g bottle of pure honey.
So basically a full spring summer season of scavenging.
His hives each held approx 80,000 bees. So that's a grand total of 8kg honey from each hive per spring/summer season.
I guess less for the rest of the year due to less flowers.

How are your bees going?
Thing have been a bit slow here in CW NSW this season. Too dry for much nectar.

Hi Sandi
They are going great guns, I have been busy with some family things I have been sorting out, so really apart from just maintaining them, havent done a lot, I have a friend coming over in a week or two and we are going to take 1 layer off each hive and leave them with 2 instead of 3 :)
omg n get us some honey, they are packed
