I have a heap of strawberry plants in a bed and I want to move them/store them. I read somewhere that you can store the bare rooted strawberry plants in the freezer, is this correct, how do I go about that?

So the idea is I want to pull the plants out and keep/store the bare rooted plants until planting later in the year. What is the best way to go about that?

Thanks

I've known of storing in the fridge for extended periods bare rooted and rolled in wet paper.
Try some done up the same way or rolled with sawdust then paper and test freezer storage.
If when you take them out after a week if the crowns turn slimey as they thaw, you know it was the wrong way.
Try 3-4 plants to a toilet roll packed in sawdust then wet newspaper. Try the same packing method in the bottom of your fridge.

This is actually where they are growing under some shade cloth in a bed. The runners are already going crazy and they are taking over 2 beds. What you suggested @Mark was what I had decided to do :) so they can stay there until I get the new spot sorted.

Some new genetic material has been designed to not produce runners.

I seem to recall seeing strawberries at bunnings where they keep the bulbs- usually inside where the indoor plants are.

Could have been some other type of berry, but its been a while since I've been in there. I'll have a look next time, I do remember being surprised that it was just a bunch of dry roots.
