Hi Folks,
First attempt at cauliflower. These are the plants I posted in an earlier thread that were wilting during the day. I have managed to get heads off the plants but this latest one is a bit how ya goin! It’s flowery and the stem has rot in it as shown below.

I assume it’s a fungal disease from the soil or something?

Left the head on the plant too long as well I would guess?

Still ok to eat the florets though I assume? They are sitting in a pot ready for dinner as I type this.
Cheers again...
Paul

Thanks let’s go. Confirmed good to eat. Quite tasty actually! I knew it was separating a week or 2 ago but was trying to let it get a bit bigger..
Thanks for the reply

Pauljm it's not enough calcium that causes that hollow stem.
The slight green and general thinness of the head is from too much nitrogen.
High N causes lack of Ca availability so they go hand in hand a bit.
Brassicas need a lot of fertilizer to get them going but it has to run out at just the right moment so the head fills out firm and round.
Also they need a constant water supply or their growth is retarded so part of the head will fill and parts won't.

So you can rest easy regarding it not being some sort of disease. :)

Was thinking maybe you should write a book or maybe replace the guy with the stupid beard on the abc??? :yahoo:
