Anyone here grow chives?

I only ask as I have been for a year or two now and find them pretty easy to grow.
The best thing about them is they just keep giving...you trim and they just grow back.

The only down-side is I find that once i trim them they get some dead stalks that are a real pain as once they grow up again the dead bits are mixed in with the tasty green bits. It just takes so long to pull them out.
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas/experience in reducing or eliminating the dead bits?

Cheers,
Steve

Growing a small bunch of chives as well as spring onions. Hard to avoid those dead bits, just try to snip them off at the base of the stalk to minimise the mixing of dead and live stalks.

Fair enough, thanks fellers.

So how low to the base do you cut them?
I probably leave a 2-3 cm I'd say....

i cut mine all the time even when not using them at ground level even just below and they grow stronger and faster mine can easily grown 10-15 cm in a week spread them out as they get bigger

I have multiple clumps and I'll cut them right back, hard on a rotation to get rid of the dead stalks so I have clumps that have just been cut, some with new growth and some that are due for a haircut.

As you've noticed they bounce back really really well esp. if you give them a liquid feed of worm juice or some dynamic lifter that has been soaked in a bucket of rain water over night.
