    Jumbo quail

On January 7 I set 15 mixed Giant and Colossal eggs from Brent at Brisbane Quail. I didn't get my 2 live as I will get a decent amount from my hatch. I will keep you posted. I am happy to swap some males so I don't get close family ties in future.

Humidity levels and hatch rates Jap Quail

I found out it is bacterial and caused by cracks or non sterilisex environment etc. I have to say I am not really clear on the drowning thing. I had my humidity up around 80 and never saw any excess water with the chicks hatching. I would agree with suffocation in the case of non pipping. I...

    Another Gold Coaster

@Comfort Welcome aboard. I so love that your daughter is so enterprising. I love to hear how the children develop ideas and run with them. At Christmas we hatched our first batch of quail eggs. Over the 3 days the kids never went near an electronic device other than to update people about...

    Classifieds section for seed swapping

If only Johnny Depp had this conversation with you. Yes I totally agree. I use Eden seeds when I am ordering seeds as they have established practices and understand quarantine process. This doesn’t just apply to plants and animals, it also applies to foodstuff and wood products. My recent...

    Classifieds section for seed swapping

I was also thinking on the lines of packing crates and wood. The slats from a bed can be gorgeous for making things such as decorative planters. Tyres for building up your spud tower and old sleepers for your garden beds. Swapping male for male in our breeding lines. Gosh the list is endless!

Question How many edible plants do you grow?

It is such a slow grower. I doubt whether I will see any fruit for another year. I will just have to imagine their juicy goodness till then!

Humidity levels and hatch rates Jap Quail

I have 5 chicks hatched and a potential 5 to go. I cranked up the humidity and this morning discovered a green slimey chick. The only reference I could find said that it was due to the humidity being too high. Does anyone have an opinion on this. All the subsequent chicks were fine that had the...

    It's all about Heritage Poultry

I was surprised to see the difference in size between my ordinary quail and the jumbo I picked up on Gumtree that was being given away to a good home. We didn't realise that she was a jumbo and were a bit hesitant when we went to collect here. Oddly enough she is our most flighty bird. I will...
