What do yall grow during summer?

I successfully germinated and grew perpetual spinach, tomato and summer squash seedlings over summer, but in seed trays inside my apartment. I've now transplanted the spinach (it's tough as nails - Mark is dead right - everyone should grow this stuff) and squash into planters on my balcony. The...

    Bushtucker

I have a baby Atherton Raspberry that I bought on ebay a few weeks ago from a bloke out near Ipswich - it was basically a stem about 30cm with a few sad-looking leaves when it arrived (I think raspberry stems are called canes? Still learning). The Atherton is a rainforest native that produces...

    Peanut Tree

FYI - my raspberry arrived and is coming along nicely in spite of the weather and the fact that it was left in a post tube outside of my apartment all weekend because I got The Postman Who Doesn't Even Ring Once. I will put a thread together when it starts getting interesting.

Bit dis heartened by weather atm

I'm in the same boat on my balcony - the 33 degree days and now a full week devoid of sun has been rough. To add insult to injury, my building decided to replace the railings on all the balconies to bring things up to code - and I've lost 15 percent of my bloody floor space! I could only laugh...

    Blue Quandong tree

According to this site, it will likely be around half as big. And its fruit sound a bit rough - plus it doesn't produce for 7 years. https://tuckerbush.com.au/blue-quandong-elaeocarpus-angustifolius/

    Peanut Tree

Yes, I imagine most bush tucker could benefit from some haute cuisine input. That being said, the Atherton raspberry's flavour is apparently just a milder version of its European cousin.

    Peanut Tree

Thanks for that, Dave. Sounds like a plan. Yeah, after I read this thread I went down the bush tucker rabbit hole. I found this useful site: https://tuckerbush.com.au/peanut-tree-sterculia-quadrifida/ and also learned that Les Hiddins has put together a database from his travels...

Sub Tropical, SEQ planting this summer

Re: Perpetual Spinach; I bought a packet of these. The writing on the packet includes the scientific name, Beta Vulgaris. So they are not actually spinach, but rather a type of beet. Mine are only seedlings at present, so I can't verify if they are exactly what Mark is talking about. Hope this...

    Quick Intro

Hi folks, Beginner balcony gardener in Brisbane, here. Been enjoying Mark's videos for a few months. Looking forward to learning more and contributing anything useful I come across. I've had gardens in the past, but never in pots, and I didn't take it seriously at all. Currently in the process...
