Hello Mark and all,
This is Montse from Spain, female 36 y.o. freelance translator based in the Netherlands. I just registered this site hoping to gain some insight into the beauty and the challenges of self-sufficiency.
My husband JW and I are planning to travel to different countries to meet self-sufficient people and communities willing to share their farming knowledge and life experiences. (Also aspiring self-sufficient people and communities, of course).
Australia and Europe are first on our list, then Asia, America and Africa will follow, but we do not intend to be exhaustive or encyclopedic. It is neither for scientific nor statistical purposes: our idea is to collect different first-hand stories of human self-sufficiency in a book and a blog, along with some facts and photographs of their diverse environment, staple food and farming tools.
(You can check JW's photos on flickr, member name is macrofotografie)
In February we will spend three weeks travelling from Sydney to Cairns, if you are interested, drop me a line. As soon as we have the "frame" of the blog ready in January 2014 I can send you the link if you are curious.
Best wishes,
Montse

Hi Montse and welcome.

Your plans to go on a self-sufficiency world tour sounds wonderful and apart from being a great way to gather information for your book or blog I'm sure it will be a fantastic personal experience!

Sharing information here on SSC is what our site is about - we'd be happy to give you guys incite into our self-sufficient culture :) (and we're not encyclopedic either) I'm sure through your journey you'll uncover plenty of interesting self-sufficiency material to hopefully share some with us along the way also.

Thanks for joining SSC!

I hope you enjoy your visit to Australia. Keep in mind you are visiting at the hottest time of the year so be prepared coming from the cold.

Hi Chris, thanks for your message and the reminder! We are really looking forward to visiting Australia again :) but I guess I will be struggling with the heat, I am not used to hot weather anymore, despite of the fact that I grew up in central Spain, where the summers are long, dry and hot, with temperatures over 40ºC!

I had a look at your blog Montse well done on your first post. I tried to write a comment but I didn't get a confirmation when I posted it so I hope it worked.
