Hi Greg my zucchini are pretty well finished now I to do the hand pollinating this time of year I find better results around 430 to 5 am or the ants clean the flowers out I don't go for the Barry though . Stripping the garden down as off to Brisbane for op next week will be slowed down for little while best of luck with the zucchini. Cheers Dave

Hi Dave; good haul. I am in Brisbane, if I can do anything to assist let me know; not much good at surgery, but happy to bring soft drink, choc or the like. I will PM you my phone number in case it is of assistance.

What is the best way to dry herbs, hanging to dry or using a food dehydrator? I plan on growing herbs this year for drying but I've never done it before.

I've never used a food dehydrator but I can't see why that wouldn't work! Worth a try at the very least?

However, something I learned quickly when hang drying herbs is to use rubber bands for leafier herbs. Rosemary and similar herbs tie up nicely, but leafier herbs like basil tend to shrink a lot and fall out of the bindings I tie.

Best of luck!

Hi Nate Spud I am only learning about drying I have tried some in the dehydrator seems to work ok don't try to heat them to high or you can burn the leaves. Have tried hanging but because of the humidity at the moment it doesn't work as well. Dave

Hi Dave, I'm a newbie to gardening but I think I have caught the gardening bug. I was just wondering what time of year is the best to plant watermelon? Do they grow all year round in a subtropical climate or is it best to start them in spring? I live just south of Brisbane.

Hi Barry September would be good to plant can go later if you wish I found they struggle a bit when the real heat gets going but if you had them under light shade cloth that may help and keep up plenty of water .one ploblem you will run into by planting later is the molds and fungi get going once the humidity builds this is not good for plants. Hope this is of some help. Dave
